If you’ve ever been on hold to a bank or telecommunications provider, you’ll know how frustrating it can be.

For a person in crisis, being on hold can be particularly discouraging.

Understandably, some people abandon their call for help.

Those who hang up the phone or leave the text message conversation before its begun remain alone in their distress. They don’t experience the reassuring connection of a Lifeline Crisis Supporter at the other end.

Sadly, we know that one person in 10 abandons their call before connecting to a Crisis Supporter.

Some may try again later. Others may send a text message or online chat request instead.

But it’s heart-breaking to think of anyone going without someone to listen when they need it most.

Please make a donation before 30 June to help Lifeline answer more requests for help and reduce the wait time for crisis support.

This is a critical time.

During the last two years, many Australians have felt isolated like never before. As we emerge from the pandemic, so many people are feeling utterly exhausted.

In the last year, Lifeline has received more than one million requests for help—the highest number in our almost 60-year history. With your kind help, we’ve managed to respond to over 90% of those requests at times, but it’s not enough.

We want everyone to receive the help they need, every time they need it.

Mel understands why it’s so important that people in crisis are able to connect with a Crisis Supporter. She lives with the lifelong pain of her partner, Gus, ending his life when he was just 23.

“What might have happened if something had broken his cycle of thought? What if he’d reached out?”

Please make a donation today to help Lifeline be there every time someone reaches out for help. With the kindness and compassion of people like you, we can support and equip more Crisis Supporter volunteers, answer more calls, and save more lives.

Any amount you can spare at this time would be enormously appreciated and will go towards offering connection and hope for someone like Gus, when they need it most.

If you or someone you know needs crisis support, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14, text 0477 13 11 14, or visit www.lifeline.org.au/gethelp. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, all of Lifeline’s crisis support services are now available 24/7. We’re here for you.
